Usually stats from all advertising consoles will differ from the stats on Play. Perhaps some people opted out of StartApp when installing your wallpaper.
Its a big difference .. For my app, users can opt out after they installed the app, not on installation.. and this should count as valid install on StartApp. If i understood StartApp right, every install will be counted, even if users opt out after installation.. What is also weird is that i have send them a message 2 days ago regarding this but no answer so far. What % of difference do you have with StartApp? Thanks
So you don't show the opt-in dialog to your users? I checked out one of my apps. Only 50% of the actual Play installs are recorded in StartApp. I do have an opt-in though.
I have the opt-in dialog, but if the user declines the app won't be installed. I'm not sure if Google counts this prior to install (dialog screen) as valid install.. I also find it hard to believe that 50% of users will opt out... maybe 25-30% but 50% is a lot. Thanks
For 100 installs according to Play i have 40-50 accoridng to StartApp... thats more than 50% .. i just can't see the logic in this.
Signed up through you guys link. Your welcome! Im in the US and with 93% of my app installs in the US at $.05 an install I think its a good investment for a new app I am making. Since ads will be in it from the beginning it will quickly weed out the stingy users who want everything for free. This will be a test app and yes I know some of those stingy people who want everything for free will leave negative 1 star comments, Ill counter those with quirky statements as soon as Google allows me to reply to posts!
@Vas. Which ad types from startapp do you guys use? Currently I only implemented the notification one that was in the video. Have you guys tried the alert or app wall ad?
Not really. I used to run some of their banners in the settings, but it wasn't making good money. I think @stollo770 was saying he was messing around with Leadbolt's banner push ads. Wonder how that is working out.
Here is my 2 days with startapp. Seems kind of low payouts for my main app there. 156 downloads $1.70 earned lol. I figured that should have been at least $8.
I have indeed been experimenting with full banner push notifications. Leadbolt support helped me integrate them into my live wallpapers. To do it you need to update to their thunderbolt SDK v4.0 and then add an xml file into your layout folder. The push notifications look a lot better as full banner ads instead of stupid lines of text with a symbol next to them. They are what push ads should have been from day 1. Also the subject of ads has improved with the full banners. Instead of getting a single line of text saying "Claim your free Ipod touch NOW!" (obvious scam), I have been seeing ads for amazon products, Clorox bleach, and other graphical ads that feature pictures of the products themselves. Its just a lot more interactive and pleasant to look at, and is less of a scam. That being said not all of my ads are full banners. You get what you get and it is up to the people advertising in your software to provide full banner ads or not. Some times I get full banner ads, some times I get the basic text notifications. I'm experiencing this from the ads I receive from my live wallpapers that I have installed on my own personal device and I assume that others are experiencing it the same way. There is no pattern to how many full banner or text based notifications I receive, it oscillates a lot, some days I get all text based notifications, some days I get all full banner notifications, and some days I get some of both. It all depends on the day. As for ECPM's there is no way of tracking how much each indavidual ad makes you, but I assume you make more with full banner ads instead of basic text, because the ad is more interactive and visually appealing to users. However, to test everything I left one of my live wallpapers alone and did not integrate full banner notifications into it. This live wallpaper has a modest install rate (around 250 a day) and has good user ratings. The daily ECPM that it had at the start of my test was $1.58 and it has remained at that level (it is the control). All of my other applications that I integrated full banner ads into have all increased in ECPM, but only slightly. They have all increased by about $0.10 to $0.15 each with one example going from a daily ECPM of $1.80 to $1.92 and another going from $1.35 to $1.48. They are only slight increases but they all have positively impacted by revenue so I'm still pleased. Its worth trying if you are into Leadbolt. As far as I know, no other ad agency offers this option, and its a really good option. With these ads companies can better reach users, and design better/more attractive ads. They are sure to attract big companies that pay big money, and from what I see now in the ads I am getting, they already are. Also worth noting, they still follow my "user first" policy and are very classy and non-obstructive. Try them out. And Vas, you need to include that option in 3.0. Its an absolute necessity. Or just release the source code. Either way I'm fine.
Hey guys, Eraste- As you probably figured out your average RPMD is around $10 and it is based mostly from where your users are. This is a great way to monetize your app while using other methods as well such as notifications like stollo suggested. Stollo, Vas- very soon StartApp is going to offer some other ways to generate money from your apps which will boost your revenue. I promise to let you know when its widely open. For any question either PM me or visit us at http://www.startapp.com/?LinkID=496 Cheers
@kfir it is growing. I forgot about the opt out when the app is opened for the first time. People remember that users can "op-out" of the start app integration when they first open the app. If they do not accept the opt-in you don't earn any money from start app. However this is why I use both. Notification from leadbolt and startapp. If a user downloads the app and opts out of start app I can still generate some revenue through notification ads. Or vice versa. Start app process: User downloads app User opens settings menu User presented with a EULA to accept or deny. If user accepts = paid and search functions etc installed If user denies = not paid nothing installed Only thing I could ask for would be better reporting in the console. I think the stats refresh once a day? I'm not sure but that's what it looks like with my account. Around 10:00 pm eastern time I will see the graph for the current day and my green earnings this month amount will have changed. Any plans for faster turn around on reporting? I am happy with start app as of now used in conjunction with leadbolt.
As soon as a user clicks the link to download it is counted as a download, regardless if install is aborted or incomplete! I agree Google needs a better tracking system. Some advertising agencies have code you can insert into the app for conversions to be sure how many you have actually installed etc. I have a high opt out rate also. I don't think its hard to believe. I downloaded one of my apps to see it in action and the EULA screen from start app is impressive. Many people may hit no/cancel without thinking or even reading it because they don't want to be "obligated" to anything. Or like me thinking of pop ups on the pc I just hit close without ever even seeing what its about. Same principle many are probably just trying to breeze through setup to see the app in action and don't take the time to read it. This goes both ways I would say the majority of people hit yes and don't even realize what they agreed to lol.
